Canonical Tags

Limecube ensures that search engines identify and rank the correct page URLs on your website, by setting correct canonical tags automatically on your website.

What is a Canonical Tag?

A canonical link element is an HTML element that helps webmasters avoid duplicate content issues (such as pages with the same content but different url) in search engine optimization by specifying the 'canonical' or 'preferred' version of a web page.

How do Canonical Tags work?

On Limecube, Canonical tags are automatic and appear in the source code of the page.

For example the About Us page could be reached by different 'case' versions of the URL (as per the 2 examples below):

  1. https://www.limecube.co/about-us
  2. https://www.limecube.co/About-us

You will note in these two examples, the 'A' in 'about' is both upper and lower case, generating the same page, however Google sees these as two different pages, and there for as two different pages of duplicate content. A Canonical tag stops the issue of duplicate content, telling Google which is the actual and correct URL.

What a canonical tag looks like

The Canonical tag automatically generated in the source code looks like this:

rel="canonical" href="https://www.limecube.co/about-us" />
