Site Search Function

4 min readUpdated 15 March 2026
The search plugin enables visitors to search your site content using keyword queries. Results are displayed on a dedicated search results page. This is designed to be a basic search function and will not work with complex search nuance.

Search Function Overview

  1. 1Create a dedicated search results page on your site first
  2. 2Click '+Add Element' in the page header bar
  3. 3Drag the Search plugin to your desired location
  4. 4Click the element to open its settings
  5. 5Set the results page to the page you created in step one
  6. 6Configure display options and click 'Apply'

Configuration Options

Number of results — determines the pagination threshold for search results. Excerpt length — the maximum number of characters displayed per result. Alignment — controls the search bar position (typically left-aligned). Width — sets the search field width. Results Page — the destination page where results are shown after a search.
The search function scans your entire page content, but results only show content from the first part of each page. This ensures search results remain organised and readable.

Enabling Search in the Header

  1. 1Open the header section for editing
  2. 2Scroll down to locate the search element toggle
  3. 3Enable the search option
  4. 4Designate your search results page
  5. 5Save your header changes

Google Analytics Integration

The search results URL structure is Google Analytics friendly, allowing you to integrate site search data with your Google Analytics reporting. This gives you insight into what visitors are searching for on your site.
Place the search element in your header for site-wide visibility, or add it to specific pages where visitors are most likely to need it. Review your search analytics regularly to identify content gaps on your site.
