Breadcrumbs

2 min readUpdated 15 March 2026
A breadcrumb is a navigation trail that indicates the current page's position in your site hierarchy. For example: Home > About > Our Team. Breadcrumbs help visitors understand where they are on your site and navigate back through parent pages easily.

Why Use Breadcrumbs?

Beyond improving user navigation, breadcrumbs with Schema markup benefit your search engine rankings. Google can display breadcrumb paths in search results, giving your listings a more structured appearance and helping users understand your site layout before they click through.

How to Activate Breadcrumbs

  1. 1Go to Administration in the top menu
  2. 2Navigate to Settings then SEO
  3. 3Scroll down to locate the 'Show breadcrumbs' option
  4. 4Tick the checkbox to enable breadcrumbs across your site
  5. 5Save your settings
Once enabled, breadcrumbs appear automatically on all pages throughout your site. They reflect the navigation hierarchy you have set up, so ensure your navigation menu structure is well organised for the best result.
Breadcrumbs work best on sites with a clear hierarchical structure. If your site is flat with only top-level pages, breadcrumbs may not add much value. They are most effective for sites with nested pages and multiple levels of content.
