Getting Your Site Found in Google

5 min readUpdated 1 March 2026

Why Your Site Is Not Showing Up

Simply having a website is not enough for anyone to find it in Google, Bing, or other search engines. With billions of web pages on the internet, search engines will not discover your site without deliberate action on your part.

Six Key Actions

Steps to Get Your Site Found

  1. 1Place <a href="/support/kb/adding-analytics-and-other-tracking-codes">Google Analytics</a> on your website to track visitor behaviour
  2. 2Set up and verify your site on <a href="/support/kb/google-search-console">Google Search Console</a> (and Bing Webmaster Tools), then submit your <a href="/support/kb/xml-sitemap">XML sitemap</a>
  3. 3Create and properly configure a Google My Business page with a link back to your site
  4. 4List your site on quality local business directories with links pointing back to your domain
  5. 5Set up social media profiles (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram) with return links in your bios
  6. 6Stay up to date with marketing methods and SEO best practices through industry blogs and resources
Even after completing all the steps above, if your domain and website are brand new, Google will not index your site instantly. Expect to wait at least one week, and possibly longer. Ranking for competitive keywords requires months of ongoing SEO work.
