Creating Internal, External and Anchor Links

5 min readUpdated 1 March 2026

Introduction

Links are essential for navigation and SEO. Limecube supports three types of links: internal links (to other pages on your site), external links (to other websites), and anchor links (to a specific section on the same or different page).

Linking Within Your Content

You can link text within a content block to any page on your site.
  1. 1Select the text you want to link, then click the link icon on the content toolbar
  2. 2Search for or select a site page, or paste a link into the 'Insert or search link' field
  3. 3Optionally add a 'Title tag' for screen reader accessibility
  4. 4Click Apply and save your page

Linking from an Element

Many elements (such as buttons and images) have a built-in URL or link field. Select an internal page from the dropdown, choose your page, click Apply, and save.
Internal links help visitors navigate your site and improve your SEO ranking by helping search engines understand your site structure.
Anchor links let visitors jump directly to a specific section on a page. You need to first create an anchor point, then link to it.

Step 1 — Creating Your Anchor

Option 1: Linking to a Section

Click the section settings icon (coloured wheel), find the 'Anchor point' field at the bottom of the settings, and click the copy icon on the right to copy the anchor reference. Learn more about section settings.

Option 2: Linking to Specific Content

Click the anchor icon on the content editing toolbar, then enter a unique ID (letters and numbers only — no spaces, and it is case-sensitive). You can repeat this for multiple anchors on the same page.

Step 2 — Linking to the Anchor

Click the link icon on the content toolbar, or use an element's link field. Choose 'External URL or in-page anchor point' and enter the anchor reference (e.g. #ceramics). Click OK/Apply and save.
Combine the page URL with the anchor ID — for example, /about#ceramics. Make sure the URL contains a # and the anchor ID contains no spaces.
If your anchor link is not working, check that the URL contains a # symbol and that the anchor ID contains no spaces. Anchor IDs are case-sensitive.
  1. 1Select the text or open the element's link field
  2. 2Insert the complete URL including https:// (e.g. https://www.example.com)
  3. 3Set the 'Target' to 'New window' so the link opens in a new tab
  4. 4Click OK and save
To remove an existing link, click on the linked text, then click the 'break link' icon in the toolbar. The text will remain but will no longer be clickable.
