More and more people find businesses by asking ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity or Google's AI Overviews, rather than by searching and clicking. An llms.txt file tells those AI assistants which pages on your site matter and what they're about.

Setting it up#

Go to SEO Manager › llms.txt.
The easy way: leave the box empty. Limecube automatically generates a sensible file from your published pages, blog and shop categories, and keeps it up to date.
To customise it: click Generate from my site to create a starting point, then edit it. Anything you save replaces the automatic version. Use View live file to see what's published.

Writing a good one#

It's a simple Markdown list of links with short descriptions, one per line. Lead with your most important pages: what you do, who you serve, your key services, your contact page. Keep it under 5KB, and only include public pages you're happy for AI assistants to quote.

Tips#

  • Descriptions matter more than links. A line reading 'Emergency plumbing across Sydney, available 24/7' tells an AI far more than the page title alone.
  • Revisit it when your services change if you've customised it: the automatic version updates itself, a saved one doesn't.
  • This complements your sitemap and robots.txt; it doesn't replace either.
