What Is a 301 Redirect?
A 301 redirect is a permanent redirect from one URL to another. It sends site visitors and search engines to a different URL than the one they originally typed into their browser or selected from a search engine results page.
Why Do You Need Them?
You should add 301 redirects when migrating from an existing site to Limecube with different page structures, or when deleting or permanently deactivating pages. Redirects ensure Google listings point to the correct new pages, existing rankings transfer across, and previously bookmarked pages still work.
Redirects should be set to the closest equivalent of the original page. If you do not do this, you may lose search engine rankings. If no equivalent exists, redirect to your homepage.
301 Redirects Tutorial
Method 1: Importing via CSV File
- 1Log into your account and navigate to SEO Manager > 301 Redirect Tool
- 2Click the example CSV file link to download the correct format
- 3Fill out the CSV with Origin URL and Destination URL columns
- 4Click the folder icon and select your CSV file
- 5Click the 'Import' button
- 6Results display all added URLs on the page
Duplicate records will not import on subsequent uploads, so you can safely re-import an updated CSV without creating duplicates.
Method 2: Adding Individually
- 1Click the 'Add' button at the top of the page
- 2Enter the Origin URL (page name after the domain — do not include the domain name)
- 3Select the Destination URL using the page selector, or choose 'Custom URL' for manual entry
- 4Save your redirect
Important Checks After Adding Redirects
After adding redirects, verify two things: first, that your site is still functioning (rare, but old URLs with unusual characters can occasionally cause issues); second, that each URL redirects to the intended destination to avoid losing Google rankings.
If problems occur, locate URLs with unusual characters, delete them, and test site functionality iteratively. Use the Broken Link Checker to verify all links are working after migration.
