Buying a domain

You can buy your own domain within Limecube, and connect it to your site seamlessly without having to worry about the hassle of playing around with DNS and domain pointing with other providers.

And best of all, our standard pricing on many domains including .com.au are amongst the lowest in Australia.

How to purchase a domain

Step 1 - Find your domain

If you are in the page editor (if not, skip the 'More' showing in step 1):

  1. On the top menu click on: More > Buy a Domain
  2. Type in the domain name you want to find
    1. Make sure it does not include the extension (e.g. .com.au) in the 1st field
    2. Choose the extension from the drop down (you can type it if easier)
    3. Press the 'check availability' button

The results

If your domain is available, you'll see a button that says 'add domain to checkout' which can take you to step 2. You'll also see other domain variations you may be interested in.

While additional domains won't benefit your SEO, they can be great to protect your competitors getting their hands on. This can be especially important with variations on your brand name, as at some point, someone else may buy it and try and sell it back to you at a much higher price (typically in the thousands).

Click the checkbox of any additional domains if you want them, then press the 'add domain to checkout' button to proceed to the next screen.

Step 2 - Adding your registrant details

At this step you need to complete all fields which are required for the domain registry.

Once you have submitted these successfully, you'll be taken to the payment screen.

Step 3 - Paying

On this step you finalise payment and purchase. It is important to note, once you have paid, this cannot be undone and there are no refunds.

Step 4 - Confirmation

Once payment has successfully processed, hit the 'return to domains' screen, and you can track the status of your domain there. Typically for the domain to process with the domain registry it can be anywhere between a few minutes and a couple of hours.

You will also receive an email confirmation when the domain has been fully transferred into your name.

Manage DNS

This section is for where you have purchased a domain name within Limecube. For other DNS-related information for domains bought outside of Limecube, go here.

DNS is what helps manage where a domain name points to, such as a website or email account. Learn more about DNS here.

Once your domain has been registered fully, under your domains panel, you will see this row of icons:

manage dns

Click 'Manage DNS' to access DNS options.

Under this screen, you will see a list of your current DNS settings for this domain.

You can:

  1. Add (create dns button at the top)
  2. Edit
  3. Delete
When editing or deleting DNS records, screenshot or write down a copy of what you had in case something goes wrong to make it quick to reverse as this can cause functions to stop working if incorrect.

Adding a new record

The kind of record you are adding will be based on the record provided to you by the other platform. Please note the tooltips next to each label in the DNS panel for more information.

This will be determined by 'Type', which is the type of DNS record you are adding. Limecube offers these 4 types:

  1. A
  2. AAAA
  3. CNAME
  4. MX

Make sure you choose the correct record and enter the correct information carefully as DNS does not update immediately, and it can take 2-4 hours to see if what you have done works correctly.

This can be a useful tool to check and see if your DNS has updated correctly.

Connecting the domain to your site

Once you have purchased your domain, you need to connect it to your Limecube site for both to work together.

To do that, next to your domain you'll have these functional buttons. Click 'Connect to this site'.

manage dns

That will connect your domain.

It's important to note you need to have an active subscription for this to work. The domain alone is not enough without the Limecube subscription.
